Where does my insurance cover me?

  • You will be covered by LEX travel insurance when travelling worldwide.
  • You are also covered within your country of residence as long as you are at least 100km away from your home and have at least 2 nights of pre-booked accommodation.
  • You are covered by gadget and mobile phone insurance both at home and worldwide.

How long will I be covered for?

You will be covered for each trip for up to 90 days each. Any claim you make after this time period won’t be valid.

Will I be covered for business trips?

Your policy will only cover the holidays or journeys you make for pleasure. Any business trips you take are excluded.

Will my family be covered?

As the cardholder, you, your spouse or legal partner (defined as any couple in a common-law relationship living permanently at the same address), any unmarried children aged under 19; or under 21 if in full-time education, who are legally and financially dependent (according to the regulations of the country of residence) on you, will be covered.

All beneficiaries must live in the same country of residence as you and are only covered when travelling on a trip with and to the same destination as you.

Is there an age limit on my insurance?

All Black or Metal customers up to the age of 70 will be eligible for all benefits of LEX travel insurance. For children to be covered, they must be under the age of 19, or under 21 if in full-time education.

Please note that if you are under the age of 21 you will not be covered under Section N – Rental Car Collision Damage Waiver.

Will I be covered for pre-existing medical conditions?

No, your policy won’t cover any pre-existing medical conditions. Pre-existing medical conditions are defined as:

  • Any past or current medical condition that has given rise to symptoms or for which any form of treatment or prescribed medication, medical consultation, investigation or follow-up/check-up has been required or received during the 2 years prior to you holding a covered card and/or prior to the booking of and/or commencement of any trip; and
  • Any cardiovascular or circulatory condition (e.g. heart condition, hypertension, blood clots, raised cholesterol, stroke, aneurysm) that has occurred at any time prior to the commencement of cover under this Benefit Schedule and/or prior to any trip.

Will my personal baggage be replaced at the full original value? - Metal customers only

No, your personal items may be subject to depreciation due to wear and tear.

Will my car rental be covered? - Metal customers only

Your booking must be paid in full using your covered card. You are covered up to a maximum of 31 days and must be on a valid trip under your terms and conditions. You can also view them within the app.

Please note that if you are under the age of 21 you will not be covered under Section N – Rental Car Collision Damage Waiver.

Am I covered for damage to my gadgets? - Metal customers only

You will be covered up to the amount shown in the policy (see Benefit Table) for the accidental loss, theft or damage to your mobile phone.

If you signed up for your Metal subscription before 24th February 2020 then please get in touch as the terms of your cover may differ.

Do I need to use my card to pay for an item or trip in order for it to be covered?

No, there is no stipulation that the card needs to be used to pay for the trip in order for it to be covered

Is my smartwatch covered under the Gadget Cover?

Smartwatches are not covered under the policy. Please see the policy wording for the list of items covered under the definition of a gadget

Can I purchase or upgrade my policy to get my pre-existing condition covered

Claims arising from any pre-existing medical conditions are not covered, unfortunately. At this time, pre-existing conditions cannot be covered through the payment of an additional premium.

How do I upgrade my card to either Black or Metal?

You can upgrade to Black or Metal via the latest version of the app.
